This is the image for the news article titled Our Students Want to Help Other StudentsTaos Academy students are currently working in their Global Leadership courses toward an opportunity which would take them to Nicaragua to assist in the construction of a school there. The students are raising funds now to support their travel and the cost for supplies to build the school. Students would supply their time and labor to assist in the effort. What a great experience this could be for some of our students. You can find out more about their efforts and donate to the cause here

A letter from Jeremy
Taos Academy Global Leadership Student Fundraising Organizer

Dear Friends,

This year, our Global Leadership Class has decided to work with BuildOn to raise money to build a school in a developing country and then travel there to help in the construction. Our ultimate goal is to raise $60,000 so that approximately 17 students from our school in Taos, NM can travel and stay with host families ($30,000 trip costs) where we will help build a school for the community. We will stay and work with a the community for a week.

Not only will this trip allow us to help others in need, but will also allow us to explore and understand other cultures and parts of the world. Many of us have never left the state let alone the U.S.A. We really need your help to raise enough money for us to help the less fortunate and expand our cultural palette.Thank you very much, we appreciate it!

Information about the Taos Academy Global Leadership Students:

The Global Leadership class is made up of 19 students (Demographics: 53% Male, 47% Female - 53% White, 32% Hispanic, 11% Native American, and 5% Asian). 12 of the students live in Taos, 4 in the outer areas, while the other 3 commute 30 minutes to an hour from Red River, Questa, and Ojo Sarco. Half of the class has never left the region or Southwest and only 4 making across the international border into Mexico. Each semester the objective of the class is to choose a project that the students are passionate about.  Previously, students have had bake sales for the Stray Hearts Animal Shelter, collected sunglasses and toothbrushes for Nepalese, built a pond and gardens on campus, and many more.  This project is the most ambitious undertaking of any group in the history of Taos Academy. The Global Leadership class hopes by achieving their goals they will inspire their classmates and other students around the country to aim high and that anything is possible.
