Student Success Lab
What is the Student Success Lab (SSL)?
The SSL is designed to extend the classroom experience, giving students:
-
A quiet, focused environment
-
Additional time with the Edgenuity online curriculum
-
Academic support from tutors and peers
The SSL Supervisor works directly with students to set weekly learning goals, develop time management skills, and support their individual learning journey.
SSL Attendance
Voluntary vs. Mandatory Attendance
-
Voluntary: Students making steady progress and maintaining high marks may attend SSL as needed.
-
Mandatory: Students on a Student Success Contract or those not meeting progress benchmarks must attend on designated days.
Lab Hours
-
Middle School SSL: Tuesday & Thursday, 8:00–12:00
-
High School SSL: Monday & Wednesday, 8:00–12:00
Student Success Programming Plan
To ensure every student stays on track, Taos Academy has a structured process:
-
Initial Support – If a student falls behind pacing in any subject, their Academic Advisor provides verbal encouragement and recommends attending SSL or Mid School Plus on non-school days.
-
Warning Stage – If a student’s grade falls below 70% in any class, a written warning is issued to the student and parent. Failure to improve within one week results in an Academic Absence.
-
Contract Stage – If a student accrues two consecutive Unexcused Academic Absences, a meeting is held with the student, family, and advisor. A Student Success Contract is created, requiring SSL attendance on non-school days Monday–Thursday, 8:00–12:00, for 30 days.
-
Academic absences are paused during this catch-up period.
-
Continued struggle may lead to additional placement discussions with parents, the student, advisor, and Director.
-
Expectations in the Lab
The SSL and Mid Plus Program are designed to be quiet, productive learning spaces.
-
Disruptive behavior will not be tolerated.
-
Parents will be contacted to pick up students who disrupt.
-
Continued disruption may result in loss of SSL privileges and enrichment opportunities.
