Are you ready to jumpstart your career while you’re still in high school?

Our Apprenticeship Program is a unique opportunity for motivated students to gain real-world work experience, learn valuable hands-on skills & possibly get paid —all while finishing school.

This program combines on-the-job training with classroom learning to help you explore a career path, build confidence, and earn industry-recognized credentials. You’ll work side-by-side with experienced professionals who will mentor and support you every step of the way.

Taos Academy Apprenticeship Program

Introduction

Taos Academy’s Apprenticeship Program gives elective credit to high school students who are  working or volunteering in the community gaining job experience, in line with their chosen career pathway through our CCP Program.

The goal of TA’s Apprenticeship Program is for students to gain marketable skills and give back to the community while exploring interests to further their post-secondary goals. By providing real-world applications to the learning process, apprenticeship opportunities expand student understanding of the possibilities for a career in their chosen field.

The length of time for apprenticeships may vary. An apprenticeship can be for a day or two, such as a job shadow or volunteer opportunity.  An apprenticeship may also be scheduled on a regular basis once or twice a week such as a paying job or mentorship.

Several similar apprenticeships  may be added together to gain enough hours for elective credit.  A full credit is 200 hours and a half credit is 100 hours.

To get started, email Ms. Patti Kravitz at:  pkravitz@taosacademy.org  to get the necessary forms and information.

Expectations

Students are expected to follow Taos Academy’s policies in the TA Student Handbook.  They must arrive on time, be polite, dress appropriately, and use appropriate language during apprenticeship hours. Use of electronic devices - including cell phones -  is prohibited, except as allowed by the apprenticeship sponsor.

Grading

Grades are received by submitting the hours completed every 2 weeks  in the job or volunteer opportunity at the end of the semester.

Here are the ways to submit hours:

  1. Students will submit their hours worked  including the date, time worked, and activity completed, & signed by their employer or supervisor.
  2. Students may submit pay stubs weekly or every 2 weeks to the Coordinator via email or bringing in copies.
  3. The Apprenticeship Coordinator will contact the student’s supervisor periodically to check on how the student is performing and if assistance is needed from the Coordinator.

Tracking Hours

To receive half an elective credit (.5), a student must accrue 100 apprenticeship hours. To receive a full credit (1) students must accrue 200 hours.

No other partial credit is given.

HOURS MUST BE SIGNED BY A SUPERVISOR.

Hours submitted without a signature will not be counted towards credit.
